Lingolay Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
Lingolay ("the app") is developed by Deep Echo ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles, where it is stored, where it may be sent, and how you control it.
Summary
- We do not collect any personal information. The app has no accounts, no ads, no analytics or crash reporting, and sends nothing back to us.
- By default, translation runs on your PC using a bundled local model. Screen content and text never leave your PC.
- Text is sent to a third-party service only if you turn on cloud translation and enter your own API key.
1. Data the app processes on your PC
| Data | Purpose | Where | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Image of the screen region you select | Recognize on-screen text | Memory only, never saved | Discarded right after recognition |
| Recognized and translated text | Show subtitles | Memory | Gone when the app closes |
| Translation history (source, translation, time) | Let you review dialogue in Settings → History | Your PC | Deleted automatically after 30 days by default (adjustable); can be cleared or turned off at any time |
| Settings, glossary | Remember your preferences | Your PC | Until you clear them |
| Translation service API keys | Call the cloud service you chose | Your PC, encrypted with Windows Data Protection (DPAPI), readable only by your Windows account | Until you delete them |
| Diagnostic logs | Troubleshooting | Your PC; no API keys and no on-screen text | Last 7 days only |
All of this stays on your PC. We have no access to it.
2. When data leaves your PC
- Cloud translation (off by default, your choice): if you select a cloud service and enter your own API key, the text to be translated (not screen images) is sent over HTTPS directly to that service, not through us. Supported: OpenAI, Google Gemini, DeepL, OpenRouter, and compatible services you specify (for example Ollama running on your own PC). Each service's own privacy policy applies (links below). You can switch back to local translation or delete your key at any time.
- Downloading additional translation models (only when you choose to): model files are downloaded from Hugging Face. The request contains none of your data.
- Installing text-recognition language packs (only when you choose to): downloaded by Windows from Microsoft, under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
- Purchases, subscriptions and trials: handled by the Microsoft Store. We never receive your card or payment details. The Microsoft Privacy Statement applies.
3. Security
- API keys are encrypted with Windows DPAPI, masked on screen, and never written to logs.
- All network connections use HTTPS, except connections to services on your own PC (such as Ollama).
- Screen capture is limited to the region you select and is never saved.
4. Your controls
- Turn off translation history: Settings → History.
- Clear all data: "Clear all data" in Settings deletes settings, API keys, glossary, history and logs (purchased licenses are kept).
- Uninstall: for the Microsoft Store version, Windows removes the app's data when you uninstall it.
- Because we hold none of your personal information, you can access, correct or delete your data directly on your own PC. Contact us with any questions.
5. Children
The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
6. Changes
When we add features that connect to the internet or store data, we will update this policy and the "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
